Julia Augusta (Livia), Augusta, AD 14-29. Tessera (Bronze, 22 mm, 6.84 g, 12 h), Rome (?). Draped bust of Livia to right, hear hair tied in a bun at the back of her head. Rev. IV within dotted circular border surrounded by a wreath. Buttrey 12/IV (combination not specifically noted). Very rare, and with a pleasing portrait of the empress. Greenish-brown patina. Very fine.
The precise purpose of this token, or tessera, is unknown, but die links of the numbered reverses exist between the non-erotic tessera and the erotic spintriae, establishing the fact that they are related.
