P. Fonteius P.f. Capito. 55 BC. AR Denarius (19mm, 3.51 g, 3h). Rome mint. Helmeted and draped bust of Mars right; trophy over shoulder / Warrior on horseback galloping right, thrusting spear downward at kneeling enemy in Gallic helmet, who holds sword and shield; to lower left, another enemy warrior, kneeling right; Gallic helmet and shield to lower right. Crawford 429/1; Sydenham 900; Fonteia 17; RBW 1536. Toned with some iridescence, some light scratches and marks, struck slightly off center. VF. With an early 20th century Dutch collector's ticket, indicating it was purchased from Reed & Co., London, 1905.
