CHINA, Eastern Zhou dynasty - Warring States Period. State of Qín. Circa 336-221 BC. Æ 'Ban Laing' (36mm, 8.26 g). Ban liang in early zhuànshū Hànzì (seal script) characters / Blank. BN Chinoises I 410-7; Hartill 7.6. Green patina in varying shades with light earthen deposits and hints of the underlying metal. Good VF.

From the Todd Hansen Collection. Ex Ralph DeMarco BBS 1 (19 April 1996), lot 667.

This variety of banliang, with good weight and finely cast in a large module, was traditionally attributed to the first issue of a unified China under the Qín dynasty. Examples of this type found in Warring States period tombs and certain hoard finds, however, require the series to be given an earlier date.
