Rev. S P Q R OPTIMO PRINCIPI / S C An oval shield, elaborately decorated with a flaming thunderbolt, set over a saltire of spears, a sword, one oblong shield and a vexillum. BMC 951. BN 532. Cohen 569. RIC 584. Woytek 198bB. A very attractive, well-struck piece with a dark, blackish-green patina. Extremely fine.

This splendid piece commemorates Trajan's victories over the Dacians: it shows a pile of arms of the types that they used and were then captured by the Romans.
