The Dioscuri – Pollux and Castor - were mythical twins who were the sons of Leda and Zeus/Leda's husband Tyndareus. Zeus infamously approached Leda in the form of a swan and seduced her, as such he was the father of Pollux, while Castor was the son of Tyndareus. The brothers were able horsemen, which is reflected in their depiction on horseback.
