Chihli. Kuang-hsü Dollar Year 23 (1897) MS62 NGC, Pei Yang Arsenal mint, KM-Y65.1, L&M-444, Kann-186c, Chang-Unl., WS-0611. Dotted triangle eyes variety. Rarely encountered in any grade, let alone just shy of Choice Mint State designations, this uniformly pewter selection is imbued with a most pleasing undercurrent of amber and peach, made all the more evident when illuminated by the subdued yet lustrous recesses. Only minimal traces of handling are evident, with unobtrusive and light haymarking seen in the fields against sharply rendered clouds and dragons; the reverse displays muted appearances largely devoid of major detractors. This offering ranks among the finest known for the variety with six certified finer between the major grading parties, and will interest even the most advanced collectors.
