Fengtien. Kuang-hsü Dollar Year 25 (1899) AU55 NGC, Fengtien Machinery Factory mint, KM-Y87, L&M-478, Kann-248b, WS-0592. Variety without inner circle around denomination. A rarely encountered type in better states of preservation, and the finest that we have seen in years of only a small handful of this conditionally elusive issue. Intermingled steel and golden amber coloration dresses the fields, yielding a striking visual display in conjunction with clearly rendered designs, these only minimally impacted by circulation. Noteworthy traces of residual luster enhance the presentation across the open expanses, where only the shallowest instances of handling are detectable. An all-around compelling example, and one which we expect may easily exceed our estimate. We note that only five examples of this type have been certified by NGC to date, of which only a single example ranks at the Mint State (MS61) level.
