Kansu. Republic Sun Yat-sen Dollar Year 17 (1928) XF Details (Cleaned) PCGS, Lanchow mint, KM-Y410, L&M-618, Kann-760, Chang-CH187, WS-0720, Wenchao-1034 (rarity 3 stars). Issued under Feng Yu Hsiang. A highly targeted emission from this only two type series, with the Sun Yat-sen dollars of the issue far outstripping their Yuan Shih-kai counterparts in terms of both absolute rarity and collector desirability. Only very rarely encountered in finer states of preservation, the coin on offer here retains a charming appearance in spite of its light past cleaning, the surfaces lightly patinated in metallic hues with just mild muting to the luster. This design can clearly be seen as a response by the Kuomintang (Chinese Nationalist Party) to the contemporary Yuan Shih-kai dollars, and thus represent a fascinating window into the struggles of post-imperial China.
