Hong Kong
British Colony. George VI Cent 1941 MS61 Brown NGC, London mint, KM24, Prid-192. One of the key rarities of the Hong Kong series, and an issue that is highly targeted in Mint State condition. The date was produced to an original mintage of 5,000,000 coins, the vast majority of which were lost or disposed of during the turbulent years of the Second World War, leaving exceptionally few available to collectors today (only 38 have been certified between NGC and PCGS combined). Toned to a subdued cocoa brown, the fields admit only subtle contact, accounting for the assigned grade. Interestingly, Pridmore notes that the type was only produced in Proof, and the issue was discontinued before currency strikes could be made.
