JULIUS CAESAR. AR Denarius (3.80 gms), Military mint traveling with Caesar in Spain, 46-45 B.C. NGC Ch VF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 2/5. Flan Flaws.
Cr-468/1; CRI-58; Syd-1014; RSC-13. Obverse: Diademed head of Venus right, with Cupid over shoulder; Reverse: Trophy of Gallic arms, composed of helmet and cuirass, oval shield and carnyx in each hand; two seated captives at base--the one on left a female in attitude of dejection, the one on right a bearded male with hands bound behind him. Struck on a somewhat compact flan, this pleasing piece otherwise features an alluring cabinet tone.
