Vabalathus as Augustus. Antoninianus; Vabalathus as Augustus; 272 AD, Antioch, Antoninianus, 3.69g. RIC-6 (R3); C-6 (Paris, 200 Fr.); Bland, Num. Chron. 171, 2011, no. 27 (14 spec., not including ours). Obv: IM C VHABALATHVS AVG Bust radiate r. Rx: VICTORI[A] AVG Victory stepping l. holding wreath and palm, star in l. field. Ex CNG 45, 18 March 1998, lot 1305. According to the Egyptian papyri, Vabalathus\' revolt against Aurelian began sometime after April 17, 272 and had already been suppressed by June 24, 272: see M. Price in Num. Chron. 1973. The rarity of the antoniniani and Egyptian tetradrachms of the revolt suggests that it was very brief, probably lasting no more than a couple of weeks.. F
