Uranius Antoninus. ; Uranius Antoninus; 253-254 AD, Emesa, Seleucis and Pieria, AE 30-32.5, 22.10g. BM-24, Sear-4414. Obv: AVTO K COV?? - ANTWNINOC CE Bust laureate, draped, cuirassed r. Rx: EMICW - N KO?W Hexastyle temple, containing the Stone of Emesa ornamented with eagle and shaded by two parasols; in exergue staircase and date E- ? -[ F] = 565 = 253/4 AD. Very rare. H.R. Baldus, Uranius Antoninus, Bonn 1971, nos. 35-44, pl. IV-V, with Supplement, Chiron 5, 1975, pl. 50, knew eighteen specimens of this coin, from one obverse die (since his obverse die II may be just I tooled) and four reverse dies. Ours is a new specimen from that same obverse die and (probably) Baldus\' reverse die 4. These Emesan bronze coins of Uranius Antoninus are important historically for specifying both the location and the date of his revolt.. VF
