On his return from South Africa, J.Knobel of Pleasant Hills was given a 'Welcome Home' on Friday 20 June 1902 by the townspeople at the School of Arts and presented with a gold medal. Pleasant Hills is a small village about 26kms west of Henty in the Riverina District of NSW and had a number of prominent families with Wendish German (Lutheran) heritage, one of these being the Knobel family.
