INDIA, British, Madras Presidency, EIC, silver quarter pagoda (1808), but with 8 stars either side of the gopuram, and the square buckle, no stops around QUARTER PAGODA, (Stevens 3.158 [values variety at $2000, most other variety types he valued at $300-$500], cf.Prid.153 var., cf.KM.352). Toned, very fine and a unique die type with 8 stars each side, very rare.
Stevens describes the issue as obverse B reverse I (he describes 22 different obverses all with 9 stars each side except obverse A another very rare type with 7 stars each side), there are also 18 different distinctive reverse dies, and notes this type as the reverse I.
