SYRIA, Kingdom of, Seleucus I, (312-280 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (14.62 g), Susa mint, issued from c.295 B.C., obv. head of Zeus to right laureated, within dotted border, rev. Athena, brandishing a spear and holding shield standing in chariot drawn to right by four horned elephants, above a spear head, on lower right M/**W* monogram, **SELEUKOU* in exergue, to left upwards **[B]ASILEWS*, (S.6831, SC 177.2, Newell ESM 316, HGC 9, 18c). Bright, good fine and rare.

Ex Dr. L.J. Sherwin Collection and from I,S. Wright, January 3, 2001, and previously from R. Loosley (Antiquarius).
