SYRIA, Kingdom of, Demetrios I, (162-150 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.42 g), probably Nisibis mint (Houghton and SC), Uncertain Mint 84 (possibly in Mesopotamia), probably issued 155-150 B.C., obv. diademed head of Demetrios to right within laurel wreath border, rev. Tyche seated to left with leg of throne a winged monster, holds sceptre and cornucopiae, to right **BASILEWS*, to left **DHMHTRIOU/SWTHROS*, monogram o/**D*/I in right field, (cf.S.7015, SNG Spaer 1356-1357; P. Strauss, "Un tresor de monnaies hellenistiques trouve pres Suse (2e partie)," RN 1971, 95 [pl. XVII, 95] = Houghton CSE 911 [This Coin], SC 1681 [This Coin Illustrated Pl.15], HGC 9, 797c [R2]). Even grey patina, good very fine and of great rarity.
