SYRIA, Kingdom of, Alexander I Balas, (150-145 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, Antioch on the Orontes mint, undated issued 150-146 B.C., obv. diademed head of Alexander I to right, filleted border, rev. Zeus seated left on throne, holding Nike and sceptre, on right, **[B]ASILEWS [A]LEXANDROU* and to left **QEOPATOROS EUERGETOU*, in exergue a monogram of **FH*, (cf.S.7030, SC 1781.1e, Babelon 794, HGC 9, 875). Deeply toned, slightly off centred reverse, nearly extremely fine and scarce.
In a slab by NGC and described as EF 40.
