Countermark applied to the obverse of a 1833/2-Do RM/L Mexico Republic 8 Reales; European dies, die style of 1832-42. A SCARCE date host from this popular mint, we have recorded only five examples of this date bearing a Y.II. countermark (5-3-1-I[1], 5-4-1-II[1] and 5-4-3-III[3]). The countermark is evenly applied with bold central details of the punch on a beautifully preserved host exhibiting wear consistent for the grade. Both sides display wonderful rich cabinet patina with hints of underlying luster in the protected areas adding to its immense eye appeal.
