SICILY. Gela. AV Litra (0.87 gms), ca. 415-405 B.C. NGC Ch MS★, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 4/5. Fine Style.
HGC-2, 336; Jenkins-491 (O102/R198). Obverse: Forepart of bridled horse right; Reverse: Head of the nymph Sosipolis left. Likely the finest example from the six or seven known, this incredibly attractive and EXTREMELY RARE fractional issue features a well centered strike with no evidence of handling and a tremendous degree of radiant luster. A rather major die crack is noted in front of the face of the nymph, but merely adds to its unique flair. An ultimate piece for the connoisseur.
