CRETE. Gortyna. AR Stater (11.41 gms), ca. 330-270 B.C. NGC Ch EF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 3/5. Overstruck, Brushed.
Svor-70 & pl. XIV, 17 (same dies); Le Rider-67 & pl. XIX, 3 (same dies). Obverse: Europa, holding scepter and drawing drapery, seated slightly right in bough of tree; Reverse: Bull standing right, head left; bee below. Always presenting rather problematic strikes, this example offers much better production than is generally the case. Utilizing an uncertain piece as the host coin, this specimen radiates with a well centered strike and charming eye appeal. A great representation for a RARE and difficult emission.
