CLAUDIUS, A.D. 41-54. AV Aureus (7.76 gms), Lugdunum Mint, A.D. 46-47. NGC EF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 3/5. Edge Marks.
RIC-33; Calico-349. Obverse: laureate head right; Reverse: DE BRITANN on architrave of triumphal arch, surmounted by equestrian statue left between two trophies; the rider extends hand in act of address and holds spear. An ever-popular and RARE type, this example features a fairly well centered strike and exhibits very little in the way of handling. A few marks are noted at the edges, as well as a subtle graze across the neck, but it nevertheless remains highly alluring and desirable.
