A note from BCD: This issue is dedicated to the September 1961 International Numismatic Congress that took place in Rome. In addition to the articles on Greek, Roman and Byzantine coinages, what really fascinates is the detailed report – with two photographs of the participants - of the May 1961 Santamaria auction. Many of the prices realized by the important coins are recorded as well as a funny episode that took place during the actual auction. The two photographs, showing participants no longer with us, are pure nostalgia to this writer.
