AUCTION CATALOGUES.
Hoffmann, H. Paris, 7 January 1861. Catalogue des Médailles Françaises, Romaines et Étrangères, composant le Cabinet de feu M. de St-M., de Compiègne. 931 lots, 60 pages. (13.5x21cm), printed paper covers as issued, label affixed to front cover and title correcting St-M information. Shelf wear, lower spine chipped, a few pencil notations, remnant of mailing label on back cover. Good.
A note from BCD: The decision to change the consignor's name by placing a sticker with an abbreviated version of it on top of the full name is quite unusual, at least for 1860. Some later handwritten prices give an idea of how collectors judged the rarity of Roman coins during those days. The book lots at the end are also of interest.
