SELEUKID EMPIRE. Antiochos VIII Epiphanes (Grypos). 121-96 B.C. AR tetradrachm. 16.39 gm. 30 mm. Ptolemaïs (Ake) mint. Struck circa 121/0-113 B.C. His diademed head right / Zeus Ouranios standing left, nude, surmounted by crescent, holding star and long scepter; M to left; all within wreath. SC 2335.2. HGC 9, 1196h. Near Extremely Fine; good style; well centered on a broad flan; lustrous old toning; particularly choice obverse; scattered tiny voids that appear to be from imperfections in the silver; distinct area of flan around Zeus on reverse (appears to be an area of finer silver); faint collector's initial 'H' in ink in reverse field at 8'. Rare.
