CHAGHATAYID KHANS: temp. Qaidu, 1270-1302, AR fractional dirham (0.92g), "Almaligh", ND, A-C1986, Zeno-244330 (see discussion), struck at Tarsakent (near Bishkek), clear mintname in obverse center, with Tibetan MaM in reverse center, Fine, RRR. This is the first example of this type to appear in our auctions. The handful of examples extant are all quite crudely struck. The design for this type was copied from the basic contemporary issues of Almaligh of Qaidu (A-1985), with the mint name retained in the obverse center, but it is believed to have actually been struck at Tarsakent.
