NASIK REGION: Anonymous, ca. 1st century BC, BI drachm (2.81g), Pieper-561 (in 2021 edition, this piece), chariot with charioteer drawn by two horses, bull and sun above, railed tree on left // lotus in double square, of the highest degree of rarity, VF, RRR, ex Wilfried Pieper Collection. Lotus, sun and horse-drawn chariot fit well in a solar background, so it is well possible that the charioteer might represent the Indian sungod Surya. For an extensive discussion of this coin see also "The Image of the Sungod on Indo-Greek and Early Indian Coins and a new Interpretation of the Silver Types of Telephos", by W.Pieper.
