Cinagli, Angelo. LE MONETE DE PAPI DESCRITTE IN TAVOLE SINOTTICHE. OPERA. Fermo: Nella Tipografia di Gaetano Paccasassi, 1848. Folio [34.5 by 26 cm], contemporary brown quarter calf with marbled sides; spine ruled in gilt with red morocco label, gilt; all page edges red. Bassoli 73–74: "Angelo Cinagli of Fermo embarked upon the Herculean task of describing, in synoptic tables, a group of some 7600 papal coins taken from just a few collections ... in effect, it was the first catalogue of papal coins. By our standards, it contains a fair share of errors and omissions, but it was the first catalogue of Italian coins conceived in modern terms, and it was a long-time before its limits became apparent." Ciferri 122. Clain-Stefanelli 10362. Gnecchi 321: "L'opera più completa sulla numismatica pontificia."
