William III (1694-1702), silver Crown, 1696, no stops on obverse, G of GRA over D, first laureate and draped bust right, legend and toothed border surrounding, GVLIELMVS III DEI GRA, rev. crowned cruciform shields, Lion of Nassau at centre, early harp with six strings, date either side of top crown, .MAG. BR.FRA. ET.HIB. REX., edge inscribed in raised letters and dated, +.+.DECVS. ET. TVTAMEN. .ANNO. REGNI. OCTAVO.+.+, 29.19g (Bull 996 R3; ESC 89A; S.3470). Toned, a bold fine and very rare.
The Latin legends translate as on the obverse "William III by the Grace of God," and abbreviated on the reverse as "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland." and additionally on the edge "An ornament and a safeguard, in the eighth year of the reign."
