The Jewish War, 66-70 CE. AE Quarter Shekel (6.21g). Minted Year 4, April 69 - March 70 CE. Paleo-Hebrew (year four - quarter). Two lulav bunches. Reverse: Paleo-Hebrew (for the redemption of Zion); Etrog. Boldly struck and perfectly centered with all the legends complete. Light reddish-brown. Certainly among the finest examples we have handled. Choice Very Fine. Estimated Value $3,000 - UP
By the time of the fourth year of the revolt, the supply of silver was diminishing and four sizes of bronzes were issued; prutah, eighth shekel, quarter shekel and half shekel. The quarter and half being the rarest by type. Like the silver shekels and half shekels, a vessel is featured, along with symbols of the harvest festival of Succoth. The lulav, a bunch of branches, and the etrog, a lime-like fruit.
