Australia Commonwealth of Australia 50 Pounds ND (1918) Pick 8c R67b PMG Very Fine 25. Highest denomination Australian banknotes are interesting and very rare. Surprisingly, their lifespan was much longer than some may realize, as their usefulness in daily transactions was minimal, which prolonged their tenure. This rare and desirable 50 Pound note, with no prefix but suffix Y, was first issued in 1924 and circulated along with previous and subsequent issues until approximately 1950. Despite the long lifespan, very few of these notes exist to be enjoyed today. The Commonwealth of Australia indicated that about 608,000 of these notes were printed and issued. All but 1,300 of that number were redeemed by 1950. Of the remaining 1,300, it is anyone's guess as how many many have been destroyed, lost, or forgotten in the last 70 years. This offered note is one of only a few known in the hobby and is an iconic rarity. A few pinholes and minor repairs are mentioned for accuracy. This is a key note for Australia. https://currency.ha.com/itm/world-currency/australia-commonwealth-of-australia-50-pounds-nd-1918-pick-8c-r67b-pmg-very-fine-25/a/4033-28007.s?type=DA-DMC-CoinArchivesCurrency-WorldPaperMoney-4033-10232021 HID08706262019 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
