Johannes (Usurper, 423-425). AE 12 mm. Rome mint. Obv. DN IOHANNES PF AVG. Pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right. Rev. SALVS R[EIPVBLICAE]. Victory advancing left, head right, holding trophy over shoulder and dragging captive; staurogram above S to left; in exergue, RM. RIC X 1916. AE. 1.39 g. 12.00 mm. R. Rare and in excellent condition for issue, with complete obverse legend. Very attractive portrait, dark green patina. Good VF.

Johannes, possibly of Gothic descent, becomes emperor in Rome in AD 423; not recognized by Theodosius II in the East, who supports his relative Valentinian III, is executed by East-Roman troops in May/June 425.
