Visigoths, Gaul. Pseudo-imperial coinage. AV Tremissis in the name of Valentinian III, c. 417-507 AD. Obv. DN PLΛ VALC(quadrate C)TIΛNVS PP AVC. Diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right. Rev. Cross potent within wreath of two palm fronds; beneath, COMOB. Cf. RIC X 3730 and 3784 (Burgundians or Franks) ; Cf. MEC 1, 171 (for type); cf. BMC Vandals 4-5 (Vandals). AV. 1.46 g. 14.00 mm. RR. Very rare and interesting issue. Some striking weakness on obverse and almost invisible scratch on reverse edge, at one o' clock, otherwise good VF.
