SELEUKID KINGS OF SYRIA. Seleukos I Nikator, 312-281 BC. Drachm (Silver, 15 mm, 3.81 g, 1 h), Seleukeia on the Tigris II, circa 296/5-281. Laureate head of Zeus to right. Rev. [BAΣIΛEΩΣ / ΣEΛEΥKOΥ] Athena, brandishing spear overhead in her right hand and holding shield in her left, standing right in quadriga of elephants moving to right; above to right, anchor. SC 131.8. Beautifully toned. Struck on a somewhat short flan, otherwise, good very fine.


From the collection of Regierungsrat Dr. iur. Hans Krähenbühl, privately acquired from Bank Leu before 1991 (with original dealer's ticket).
