Gold sovereign, 1861. London. 1/1 in date and I/I in DEI.
It is very rare to see two varieties on one coin, such as on this one here. We have not been able to find any similar coins sold in auction previously, which would attest to its rarity.
Second young head of Victoria facing left, hair tied in fillet; date below truncation, with first 1 being struck over a lower 1; VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, with I in DEI struck over a lower I, or possibly an inverted 1. / Crowned shield within wreath; thistle, rose and shamrock below; BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF:.
Good very fine.
