Lima, Peru, cob 8 escudos, 1746 V, stars in fields on both sides, NGC MS 61, finest known in NGC census. S-L30; KM-unl; Cal-2169. 27.07 grams. Lustrous and evidently high grade but rather crudely struck (pillars side doubled), yet with good cross and clear date and stars, which are believed to signify striking (possibly in 1747 or later) after a massive earthquake in October 1746 that destroyed Lima and Callao. Pedigreed to the Fernandina collection and to the Cayon auction of July 2016, with original lot-tag 1185.
