Potosi, Bolivia, cob 4 reales, Philip II, assayer B (5th period). S-P14; KM-4.2; Cal-525. 13.11 grams. Presumably an early variety within 5th-period B (formerly attributed to 3rd period) with distinctive lions and characteristic X-shaped arrangement of fleurs in New Burgundy (see lot 521 for an 8 reales), the shield and cross both full but doubled, with bold P-B, darkly toned AVF with some light scratches. Pedigreed to the Jorge Ugaz collection.
