Belize 1.1.1974 P-37a PMG Choice UNC 63 EPQ 20 Dollars

The brown $20 denomination is a rare and popular Commonwealth issue. In June 1973, the colony of British Honduras was renamed Belize. In turn, the first government issues for Belize are dated 1974. While the two other dates are encountered with frequency, the 1974 is extremely scarce. In fact, we only know of two examples trading hands in uncirculate grade (both publicly and privately) in the last five years. This iconic rarity is extremely scarce in Uncirculated grade, as the buying power and low print total prevented notes from being saved. Centering holds back the grade, but the note is fully uncirculated with no signs of handling or circulation. Only four examples grade finer by PMG currently and they all appear tightly held in advanced collections.
