Hadrian. AE 25-26; Hadrian; 117-138 AD, Petra, Decapolis, AE 25-26, 14.24g. RPC-4099 (59 spec.); Sofaer-3 (p. 192, pl. 155). Obv: AV[TO]KPATWP KAICOP (sic) TPAIANOC A?PIAN[OC CE]BACTOC Bust laureate, cuirassed r., seen from front, large Medusa head on chest. Rx: ?ETPA M[HT] - PO?O?IC Turreted city goddess seated l. on rocks, extending r. hand and holding trophy in l. Both sides in good style, and struck on a broad round flan; perhaps this is one of the earliest coins struck for Hadrian at Petra. The spelling error KAICOP for KAICAP in our obverse legend is not recorded by RPC.. VF
