Extremely rare, less than 10 to 12 examples known; same dies as an example sold in Triton XIX auction, 5 January 2016, lot 2032. Scythian are a mosaïc of different indo-europeans people who ruled a huge part of the Central Europe from the Volga to the Black Sea. Herodotos, as a large part of the Ancients greeks historians assimilated them to Amazons and the famous queen Hypolythos. Scythians people are well-known for their warriors capabilities and from the VIIIth to IVth century BC, they intended to rule all of the Black Sea area. After a defeat against Philip II of Macedonia, they established a small kingdom in the Olbia Pontica area and maintained commercial relationships with the Greek cities.
