Ex. Bolaffi auction 25, 5 June 2014, lot 137. This interesting issue has been struck by Sextus Pompeius, son of Pompeius Magnus, as commander of the Roman fleet, to honor his father. The reverse refers to the Catanean brothers, Anapias and Amphinomos who carried their parents on their necks to escape an eruption of the Mount Etna. This unusual type, illustrating this myth, has been used only one time in 108 BC : by using it, Sextus Pompeius show his Pietas toward his father and brother souls.
