KINGS OF THRACE. Lysimachos, 305-281 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 17.07 g, 11 h), Ephesos (?), circa 294-287. Diademed head of the deified Alexander the Great to right, with horn of Ammon over his ear. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ Athena seated to left on throne, leaning her left elbow on her shield and holding Nike, crowning the king's name, in her right hand; behind, transverse spear with point below left; in outer field to left, tripod. Cf. Müller 336 (drachm, Philippi). Thompson -, but cf. 170. Lightly toned, and with a pleasing portrait of Alexander. Good very fine.
The style of the engraving is very similar to lifetime issues of Lysimachos from Ephesos, and Thompson 170 has a tripod as the primary control, but instead of being placed in the outer left as here, it is on the inner left. Additionally, it has a secondary control on the side of throne.
