Obverse: Female allegory of modernity seated right on ruins, inscribing upon tablet on knee and lifting drapery off caryatid of antiquity to right; more ruins in background; Reverse: UNIVERSITE DE PARIS, plaque left blank for engraving; satchel of scrolls below; ruins at a distance in background; behind, torch and olive branches with garland inscribed PHILOSOPHIE, LITTÉRATURE, MATHÉMATIQUES, HISTOIRE. Edge: [cornucopia] BRONZE. Charming olive-brown surfaces, with a delightful matte nature. A great Art Nouveau offering from this popular and desirable turn-of-the-century medalist.
