Republic Yuan Shih-kai Dollar Year 9 (1920) MS67+ NGC, KM-Y329.6, L&M-77, Kann-666, WS-0181-2. Nien not connected variety. An unfathomable and most appropriate certification for this virtually pristine and highly popular Yuan Shih-kai dollar, the sole representative ranked at the very peak of NGC's census, with a single finer noted by PCGS. Impressive, especially when considering the general scarcity of the Year 9 issues in comparison to other dates in the series, and one that is the very definition of satiny. Wholly untoned and populated by a pervasive and seemingly endless mint radiance, further elevated by the near-complete absence of anything resembling an imperfection. A pure premium gem whose reverse displays such originality and arcing flow lines that one would demand at such an advanced tier. According to our records, no examples this fine have been offered to date, with only three MS67s crossing the auction block in the last decade. With this in mind, we anticipate a level of bidding consistent with current trends for ultra high-grade examples of vintage Chinese coins and are excited to see where to bids may fall!
