C. Memmius C.f. (ca. 56 BC). AR denarius (20mm, 3.99 gm, 6h). NGC Choice XF 4/5 - 4/5, edge scuff. Rome. C•MEMMI•C•F, head of Ceres right, wreathed with grain, wearing pendant earring, hair tied at back and flowing loosely / C•MEMMIVS / IMPERATOR, trophy of arms; bound captive kneeling right below. Crawford 427/1. Sydenham 920. Memmia 10.

From the Rockport Collection. Privately purchased from Heritage Auctions in the 1980s. Sold with original custom holder listing older catalog references.

The obverse of this type alludes to the first celebration of the Ludi Cereales in or before 211 BC. The reverse represents victories in Bithynia and Pontus of C. Memmius L.f., praetor in 58 BC and the moneyer's uncle.
