Victoria gold "St. George" Sovereign 1879-S MS63 NGC, Sydney mint, KM7. Of the two reverse varieties for this Sydney-minted issue, the newly reinstated "St. George" reverse is far scarcer, especially when encountered in Choice Mint State grades and finer. This design, which first saw use at the end of George III's reign, was the initial product of famed engraver Pistrucci before mint politics would obscure his legacy. The piece at hand endures as an impressive emission, and perhaps a touch Prooflike, laden with ample die polish and glassy reflectivity rendered unto the fields. Only a handful of grade-limiting visual distractions can be viewed to these highly attractive surfaces, and as such, is worthy of an advanced collector's bids as only three have certified finer.
