George I gold "Coronation" Medal 1714 UNC Details (Cleaned) NGC, MI-II-424/9, Eimer-470. 35mm. 21.85m. By John Croker. A rare coronation Medal of George I in gold, and an important British historical artifact that retains a long pedigreed history to a single family's collection spanning several generations. The reported mintage for this gold Medal was only 330 pieces, leaving few survivors today, and even fewer in uncirculated condition. Toned to a lovely orange-gold, with vibrant luster in the fields despite the "cleaned" designation (which we note as very minimal), alongside exquisitely crafted, high-relief devices that retain their full sharpness of detail.

Long off the market, this Medal originally belonging the consignor's great-great-grandfather, William Jacob, who founded one of Ireland's largest companies, Jacob's Biscuits, in 1885. Included with the lot is a letter from the consignor's great uncle to his mother attesting to the family provenance, as well as a copy of a family photograph taken c. 1901 on the occasion of William's 60th wedding anniversary.
