Great Britain
"G.B. Rodney - Capture of St. Eustatia" silver Medal 1781, BHM-229. An intriguing silver issue struck to commemorate Admiral George Brydges Rodney and the capture of the Dutch trading center of St. Eustatia, a West Indies port was of significant importance to the American revolutionaries as a way to avoid the British blockade. This particular piece is one rarely found coming to market, with the majority of Rodney commemorative tokens and Medals located in copper, while the lone silver example to be sold in recent memory occurred in 2019, hammering for $2,500. The present example displays a pleasing and uniform pewter patination and fully medallic features, further enhanced by a soft iridescence.
