Charles I, as Dauphin gold Florin d'Or ND (1349-1364) UNC Details (Bent) NGC, Fr-247, Dup-2453. 3.45gm. 2nd Emission. +KROL | DPhS • V, stylized lily / • S • IONA | NNES • B •, St. John the Baptist nimbate and mantled, standing facing, cross-tipped scepter with annulet in left hand, raising right in benediction, tower above. A still charming specimen showing deeply impressed details over a honey-gold flan. Minted under the future king Charles V while he was Dauphin during the reign of his father, Jean II le Bon. For the sake of completeness we note a small scratch to the right of the lily.
