Charles IV (1322-1328) gold Royal d'Or ND (from 1326) AU58 NGC, Paris mint, Fr-261, Ciani-252, Dup-240. 4.17gm. Emission from 16 February 1326. • K'OL' • RЄX • | • FRΛ' • COR' • (annulet stops), Charles, crowned, standing facing below a Gothic dais, scepter in right hand / +XPC • VInCIT • XPC • RЄGИAT • XPC • IMPЄRAT (annulet stops), cross fleurdelisée within quadrilobe, crowns in spandrels. A striking presentation for this usually flatly produced type, with just the most mild camber to the flan detectable. Despite mild friction which bounds the grade, the coin's plentiful reliefs have largely shielded the fields from significant contact, leaving them highly lustrous and attractive.
