Charles VI (1380-1422) gold Ecu d'Or a la couronne ND (from 1385) UNC Details (Cleaned) NGC, Paris mint?, Fr-291, Dup-369A. 4.00gm. 1st Emission (from 11 March 1385). +KΛROLVS: DЄI: GRΛCIΛ: FRΛnCORVm: RЄX (double saltire stops), crowned arms of France / + (pellet in first quarter of cross) XPC • VINCIT • XPC • RЄGNAT • XPC • INPЄRAT (mullet stops), cross fleurée, a star in the center; all within a quadrilobe with lis at points and crowns in spandrels. Struck with a highly peculiar die style, with a relatively irregular floral initial cross (seemingly composed of four crescents), and very distinctive X's. This is the first such example with these characteristics that we have witnessed. Though noted as cleaned on the holder, this is exceedingly light, and does strikingly little to take away from the coin's visual appeal.
